Momentum. The suspension compresses, coiled in readiness. The apex of the corner approaches. A pump of the handlebars pushes the tires deeper into the dirt. Then release. Like a kid pumping a swing to get higher, go further. Faster.
The trail bobs and weaves up and down the terrain. Along the side of the hill then into the trees. All the while pumping the corners with the bike. Teasing velocity out of every turn, every dip, every rise.
The trees transition into prairie. Drop down towards the river. Then back up, back to the rolling field. Speed flowing from the contours of the park. Gentle shadows spilling down the hills. Concentrate. Keep pushing.
This ride, it’s all about momentum. Like a kid pumping a swing trying to get higher, go further. Faster.
